Li-Fi

Nanoscale Devices Lab

Explore wireless communication technology harnessing light for data transmission. Li-Fi, short for Light Fidelity, was first introduced during Professor Harald Haas's TED Global talk in 2011. It is a light-based communication system that enables high-speed data transmission across the visible light, ultraviolet, and infrared spectra. LiFi's operational method, employing light for data transfer, provides inherent security benefits. A notable advantage lies in its containment of light-based data within its immediate surroundings, as light cannot penetrate walls. This property guarantees that unauthorized interception of data by external parties beyond the designated area becomes exceedingly difficult, thereby enhancing the security of wireless communication.
